Atlas of Human Anatomy and Surgery

The remarkable "Atlas of Anatomy" by Jean Baptiste Marc Bourgery (1797-1849) stands as a monumental achievement in the field of medical history. This work, which began in 1830, was a collaborative effort with Nicolas Henri Jacob (1782-1871), a talented illustrator and pupil of the renowned French painter Jacques Louis David. Although the first volumes appeared a year after the project started, nearly twenty years of dedication were needed to bring the entire treatise to fruition. Unfortunately, Bourgery did not live to see the final volume's publication, as it was completed five years posthumously.Spanning eight volumes in total, the treatise provides an exhaustive exploration of the human body. It covers various aspects such as descriptive anatomy, surgical practices and techniques prevalent in the early 19th century, general anatomy alongside embryology, and offers insights into microscopic anatomy.
