The Affordances of Children's Environments. The Results of Polish Studies

Psychology in Practice explores the significant outcomes of a research initiative focused on tailoring tools for assessing the developmental environment of young children aged 6 to 36 months. The study primarily highlights the identification of both risk and growth-promoting factors within the physical and social surroundings of young children in Poland. It proposes a comprehensive approach to diagnose the developmental potential of a child's environment. Additionally, it offers practical guidelines for individuals responsible for organizing or evaluating these environments. This book also delves into the Polish adaptation of two key assessment tools: the AHEMD questionnaire, which evaluates home affordances for motor development, and the IT-HOME Inventory, aimed at measuring the quality of the home environment for infants and toddlers. The authors, Elżbieta Hornowska, Anna I. Brzezińska, Karolina Appelt, and Katarzyna Kaliszewska-Czeremska, are esteemed researchers from the Institute of Psychology at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland. Their work is presented in a concise English edition under the title "Rola środowiska w rozwoju małego dziecka – metody badania," published by Wydawnictwo Naukowe Scholar in 2014.
