In 2012, the Jagiellonian University celebrated the 25th anniversary of its Department of Japanology, which is now known as the Department of Japanology and Sinology. To mark this milestone, an international conference was held on November 22nd and 23rd in the picturesque Kołłątaj College, located in the vibrant city center of Cracow. The event brought together four prominent Japanese studies centers from Poland: Poznań, Toruń, Warsaw, and, naturally, Cracow. Additionally, the conference welcomed distinguished guests from Belgium and Germany.
The presentations featured at the conference spanned a wide array of topics related to Japanese studies. Discussions delved into the intricacies of the Japanese language, literature, and theatre, while also touching upon themes in history, philosophy, and religion. A diverse group of speakers contributed to the event, ranging from esteemed professors and emerging academic talents to doctoral students. This mix of experience and perspectives enriched the dialogues and created an engaging and enjoyable atmosphere for all participants. The detailed conference programme is outlined below.
