The book narrates the thrilling escapades of Jarmil, a laid-back ape, exploring the enchanting Indian subcontinent. With a tale teeming with surprises and unexpected meetings, the story draws inspiration from the author’s personal adventures. This unconventional graphic novel, lavishly illustrated in a widescreen format, blurs the lines between comics and art books and is suited for readers of all ages who appreciate visual narratives. Marek Rubec, the creator, is a versatile freelance illustrator, graphic designer, and comics artist. His brief comics have appeared in magazines and anthologies across Czech Republic and Europe. Notably, he was the first Czech artist to design a Google Doodle. In 2013, he was awarded the ARNAL prize for the best wordless comic, and in 2017, he won a comics competition at the Frame festival in Prague. In 2016, Rubec participated in a residency for comics artists in Malmö, Sweden. He gained fame in 2018 with 'Jarmil', a collection of humorous tales about a monkey-man residing in a peculiar small town in Europe, published by Centrala. His creations often draw from the atmosphere of urban peripheries and blockhouses.
