A new compilation showcases the work of Saul Leiter, with many pieces making their debut in this collection. Leiter gained widespread recognition only in his later years, even though his career had started decades earlier. Initially overlooked, his contributions have been reassessed significantly over the past 20 years. Leiter's unique approach captured the vibrant life of New York streets during the mid-20th century through the use of color photography, contrasting with the black-and-white norm of his peers. His work emphasized creating a mood as much as it captured fleeting moments. In recent times, there has been a surge in interest in his art, with numerous exhibitions and publications dedicated to it. His former studio, located in East Village, New York, which he occupied from 1952 until his passing in 2013, now serves as the headquarters of the Saul Leiter Foundation. The foundation is undertaking the mammoth task of organizing and cataloging over 80,000 pieces to construct a comprehensive archive. This book features discoveries from this process, along with unpublished and popular works in both color and black and white, as well as intimate photographs of those closest to him. Saul Leiter once remarked that photographs capture fleeting memories of a never-ending world, encapsulating the essence of "Forever Saul Leiter."
