In November 1924, the ship named the Endeavour embarks on its journey to New York carrying 2,000 passengers, amongst whom lurks a murderer. The tranquility of the voyage is shattered when an elderly man is discovered lifeless at the bottom of a staircase. Initially, Timothy Birch, an officer on the ship, suspects a tragic accident. However, James Temple, a tenacious inspector from Scotland Yard, believes there is more than what appears at first glance. Conceding to Temple's suspicions, Birch begins an investigation that soon uncovers the theft of a highly valuable painting. Only the owner and the now deceased man were aware of the painting's existence. With only a few days left until the ship docks in New York, and with Temple's intentions becoming increasingly dubious, Birch's pursuit of the murderer becomes perilous. Meanwhile, the passengers continue to move about the ship, unaware that a killer is among them.
