Works of Mercy

The declaration of the Jubilee Year of Mercy by Pope Francis offers a profound opportunity for us to reflect on our Christian lives, particularly through the lens of the Works of Mercy. This invitation to engage with the Works of Mercy should be viewed not merely as acts of material charity, but also through a deeper spiritual perspective, emphasizing growth and education. The Spiritual Works of Mercy, as outlined in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, highlight this richer understanding. Each act of mercy serves as a reminder of God's boundless compassion, urging us to respond to the Gospel's call by following Jesus Christ and emulating His incredible examples of both Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. It is my hope that this translation serves as a source of inspiration during World Youth Day in Kraków, encouraging the youth to recognize God's abundant mercy, His immense love for the world, and His presence within each of us. Christopher Jones, Bishop Emeritus of Elphin Diocese, Sligo, Ireland.
