Each day before dawn, Lim Ah Hock starts his routine on Carpenter Street by opening the shutters of his modest kitchen, lighting an incense stick, and crafting what is known as the finest laksa soup in Kuching. The Lim family's lore tells of an ancestral broth, considered their secret to success, said to have been bestowed upon them by a deity who ensured them wealth as long as the recipe was preserved through the lineage. However, as Ah Hock grows older, the renowned quality of the broth begins to dwindle. His sole heir, Wei Ming, remains disinterested in carrying on the family tradition. Wei Ming spent the last eight years in Hong Kong pursuing his culinary ambitions but now finds himself mired in gambling debts and a complicated love life. The once-celebrated restaurant he manages has even lost its prestigious Global Restaurants Guild star. Summoned back to Malaysia for his father's 60th birthday, Wei Ming sees an opportunity to leave behind his troubles. Yet, when longstanding issues arise and a local entrepreneur threatens their family's heritage, both father and son must re-evaluate their priorities and decide what they genuinely cherish.
