Casa Kahlo, Frida Kahlo's cherished family home in Mexico City, has recently been unveiled to the public for the first time in nearly a century. This remarkable opening is celebrated in a new publication curated by Frida's great-nieces, who spent their lives in this sanctuary. The book offers a unique insight into the life of this legendary artist, exploring her personal refuge and family setting. Casa Kahlo was not just another residence; it was a haven where Frida could embrace her true self, away from the shared dwelling with her husband, Diego Rivera. In this vibrant environment, surrounded by her artistic relatives and the rich Indigenous culture she admired, Frida engaged in meaningful interactions with her sisters, friends, and lovers. The house also doubled as a studio where she inspired a group of devoted students known as Los Fridos. Amazingly, Casa Kahlo has remained in the family since its purchase in 1930. Through detailed documentation of its interiors, the book showcases an extensive collection of personal artifacts, alongside unpublished letters and postcards to her sisters, mother, and beloved niece Isolda.
