Who could resist the chance to manage the Royal Mint and its neighboring bank in Ankh-Morpork? It's a position any ambitious individual would desire, offering security for a lifetime—or so it seems. However, Moist von Lipwig, a reformed criminal, is quickly realizing that this 'lifetime' might not last as long as he'd hoped. The Chief Cashier's vampiric tendencies raise suspicions, and there's an unsettling enigma hidden in the cellar, if one could even call it that. Making matters worse, the Royal Mint is currently unprofitable. Moist's girlfriend is being pursued by a wizard with three centuries under his belt, while Moist himself is at risk of having his deceptive past uncovered. The Assassins Guild could potentially get to him before anyone else does, as there are many who would rather see him gone. He's also charged with the daily task of walking the Chairman.
