This publication is the result of a 20-year collaborative research effort focusing on Indian literature and art, involving South Asian Studies centers at five universities: the University of Milan, Charles University in Prague, Jagiellonian University in Cracow, University of Warsaw, and University of Cagliari. An International Seminar, titled "Journeys and Travellers, Routes and Destinations in Indian Literature and Art," was held at the University of Warsaw from September 21-23, 2017. Given the extensive and diverse nature of the submissions, the work has been split into two volumes. The first volume features 13 papers grounded primarily in Sanskrit and Pali sources, while the second volume presents 12 papers that draw mainly from vernacular Indian language sources. Papers in each volume are organized largely in chronological order according to the dates of their sources, with some consideration given to the source languages and specific topics of the papers. This structure invites readers on a temporal journey, fitting the overarching theme of the publication.
