Marc Elsberg's novel "Chciwość" explores a dystopian future marked by extreme social disparities and a persistent crisis seemingly beyond control. As the world grapples with relentless greed, it raises pressing questions about the depths of societal inequities and the potential consequences of unchecked economic divides.
In a world where poverty is omnipresent, societies are driven to waves of mass protests. This crisis, unparalleled in its severity, leads to widespread turmoil, with bank failures and the resulting fallout within states and corporations. The wealthiest individuals exploit these conditions to their advantage, raising the question: is there a way out of this quagmire?
Amidst this turmoil, a Nobel Prize laureate is set to propose a solution aimed at restoring much-needed equilibrium. However, tragedy strikes when he and his assistant perish in a car accident. A witness to this event is drawn into a deadly game, endeavoring to implement the scientist's plan. Will they succeed? "Chciwość" delves into grim realities, presenting challenges we may soon have to confront.
Marc Elsberg, born in 1967, hails from Austria and made his mark as a writer after studying industrial design at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. He built a career in advertising consultancy for agencies in Vienna and Hamburg. Alongside, Elsberg contributed articles to the Viennese daily "Der Standard."
