This monograph delves into the representation of Jews in various scholarly journals and popular gazettes published in French in the United Provinces of the Netherlands, mainly by Huguenot refugees. These sources, often overlooked by scholars, offer valuable insights for further exploration. The academic journals predominantly address the historical and theological facets of Jewish life, the origins of their language and its impact on other languages, as well as their traditions and worship practices. On the other hand, the lay gazettes focus on societal gossip and contemporary events, depicting Jews through the lens of the editors' perspectives. This study identifies several distinctive portrayals of Jews in these sources. A special focus is placed on the concept of privacy, serving as an analytical tool to better comprehend the formation of these narratives. The concluding section of the book explores the portrayal of Muslims, specifically Turks, and the Siamese in the same publications, to assess whether these groups were represented differently than Jews.
