His translation has served as a crucial bridge for Polish readers across several generations, offering a singular gateway into Proust's intricate prose. Boy-Żeleński's aim was to transform Proust's narrative into a text that felt naturally Polish, though the essence of "In Search of Lost Time" lies in its fluid blend of various literary forms: essay, poetry, philosophy, societal critique, and the exploration of human character and the religion of Beauty, as portrayed through art, literature, and music.

In our contemporary world, where consumerism, careerism, and ideological divides dominate, does Proust still hold valuable lessons? During the darkest times of Stalinist terror, within the confines of a POW camp in Griazovets, the painter and writer Józef Czapski delivered lectures on Proust to his fellow detainees. His talks, titled "Proust Against Degradation," aimed to nurture resilience and intellectual vitality among his peers, recalling the elegance of salon concerts against the harsh reality of their imprisonment.
