The publication "Katja Strunz Zeittraum #9 fr Władysław Strzemiński" serves as a companion piece to the exhibition Afterimages of Life. Władysław Strzemiński and Rights for Art. This exhibition was held at Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź from 30 November 2010 to 27 February 2011. Curators Jarosław Lubiak and Paulina Kurc-Maj invited German artist Katja Strunz to join the project. Strunz, known for her innovative approach to avant-garde themes, contributed a fresh perspective to the exhibition with her architectural design elements. By integrating Strzemiński's 1930s alphabet, Strunz crafted the term 'Zeittraum,' to encapsulate the exhibit's theme. This unique term, inspired by Walter Benjamin’s historical philosophy, elegantly intertwines the concepts of 'Zeitraum' (a span of time) and 'Traum' (dream), offering a deeper level of interpretation.
Barbara Kuon observes that by incorporating this installation, Strunz preserved Władysław Strzemiński’s legacy from the ravages of time and the confinements of art history. This effort retains the compelling power of Strzemiński’s revolutionary artistic insights, protecting them from becoming mundane or forgotten. Strunz's artistic gesture, without the audience necessarily understanding the etymology of 'Zeittraum,' effectively engages viewers with Strzemiński's vision. Strunz, paralleling the insights of Benjamin, performed an act of preserving Strzemiński’s forward-thinking ideas. The exhibition catalogue includes photographic documentation of the display alongside reproductions of both Strzemiński and Strunz's works, further enriching the viewer's experience.
