This book is a collaborative effort by the Institute of National Remembrance - Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish Nation, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Polish Ministry of Interior and Administration, and the Institute of Political and Ethno-National Studies at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. It compiles documents related to the famine that struck Ukraine in the early 1930s, incorporating records generated by Soviet special services as well as the Polish military intelligence and diplomatic channels. Additionally, the volume includes reports from the Polish police and local government authorities reflecting the sentiments and reactions of Ukrainians residing in Poland upon receiving news about the dire events unfolding in Soviet Ukraine. This publication serves as the English edition of a volume from the series "Poland and Ukraine in the 1930s and 1940s." Its primary objective is to unveil previously unreleased documents sourced from the Special State Archives of the Security Service of Ukraine, various Ukrainian state archives, the Central Military Archives, and the Polish Archives of New Records. These documents offer insights into the famine's impact in Soviet Ukraine during the early 1930s and the response of the Ukrainian minority in the Second Polish Republic to the emerging information from the east. The records were produced by the Soviet special services (OGPU/NKWD), the communist party apparatus, and Polish intelligence (Section II of the General Staff), alongside the Polish State Police and provincial administrative offices.
