Shahriar Mandanipour - sylwetka autora
Iranian writer and film critic Shahriar Mandanipour was born in Shiraz, a prominent city in Iran. He pursued political science at the University of Tehran (Dāneshgāh-e Tehran). Following his graduation, he was conscripted into the military and participated in the Iran-Iraq War. Mandanipour held positions such as the Director of the Hafez Research Center in Shiraz and the National Library in Fars. Although his initial short story, "Shadows of the Cave," was published in 1985, he began to dedicate himself earnestly to literature in the mid-1990s. Between 1992 and 1997, he faced a five-year ban on publishing, yet he was honored in 1994 with the award for Best Film Critic of Iran.
In recent years, Shahriar Mandanipour has been residing in the United States, where he teaches Iranian literature and a course on contemporary Iranian cinema at Brown University in Providence. Among his notable works are "Haft mard. Haft dastan," which includes excerpts available in the Polish collection "Kolacja cyprysu i ognia. Współczesne opowiadania irańskie," published by KAW in 2002. Other works include "Del-e Del Dadegi" (1998), "Ketab-e Arvāh-e Shahrzād" (2004), and "Censoring an Iranian Love Story" (2008), which was released in Polish as "Irańska historia miłosna. Ocenzurowano" by W.A.B. in 2010. Shahriar Mandanipour is married and has two children: a daughter, Roya "Bārān," and a son, Māhān.
