Józef Gawłowicz - sylwetka autora
Captain Józef Gawłowicz, notable for his expertise in maritime navigation, is a celebrated Polish sea captain and writer. Born in a quaint village in the Podkarpacie region, he pursued his passion for the sea at the State Maritime School in Gdynia, specializing in navigation. His life was largely intertwined with the ocean, beginning his career on the Far East shipping lines, making stops in notable ports such as Yokohama, Shanghai, and Colombo, and continuing his journeys through many more. From 1976, Gawłowicz took command of various vessels, ranging from smaller 5,000-ton ships to larger Panamax vessels, gaining extensive experience with visits to twenty ports along the Gulf of Guinea.
Beyond his maritime endeavors, Gawłowicz shared his experiences through writing, contributing both technical guides and maritime fiction. He often published under pseudonyms like Adam Tukubar, Paweł Sowa, and Sindbad Żeglarz, particularly in the Paris-based "Kultura." His dedication to literature was also evident in his role as the director of the Maritime Office in Szczecin and in Słupsk, as well as his leadership within the Szczecin branch of the Polish Writers' Association.
Among his notable works are "Awantury afrykańskie" published by KAW in 1987, "Opowieści nawigacyjne" by Wydawnictwo Glob in the same year, "Byłem kurierem Giedroycia" from Wydawnictwo Albatros in 1998, and "Gejsza z Osaki," first released by Wydawnictwo ERRA in 2000. On a personal note, he is married to Regina and is the father of two children, a daughter named Izabela and a son named Witold.
