There are times when a single decision can shape the course of a life. In the 1940s in Shanghai, Haiwen and Suchi, who have grown from childhood friends to young lovers, are convinced they are meant to be together. However, Haiwen's secret decision to join the army to prevent his brother's conscription changes everything, scattering their futures apart. Decades later, a significant moment brings them briefly together again on a Hong Kong ferry in 1966. Fast forward sixty years, Haiwen, now in his late seventies and working at a 99 Ranch in Los Angeles, unexpectedly encounters Suchi once more while bagging bananas. As they reconnect, there's a feeling that they might finally seize the life they once dreamed of together. Nevertheless, the shadow of their past accompanies them, and time will reveal whether they can build something new. Through alternating perspectives, "Homeseeking" takes readers across seven decades, navigates the turbulent history of modern China, and follows the journey of these separated lovers from Shanghai to Hong Kong, Taiwan, and ultimately America.
