The Farm-to-Fork strategy, integral to the European Green Deal (EGD), focuses on rapidly transitioning to sustainable food systems. This shift aims to maintain food security while minimizing the environmental and climate impacts of food production, and simultaneously enhancing system resilience. Although numerous EU documents highlight benefits for farmers, the food industry, and consumers, potential downsides exist, such as reduced agricultural output and decreased earnings for producers. Small farms, particularly those overseen by younger farmers, might face difficulties due to production scale and demographic challenges stemming from the Green Deal policies. Nonetheless, having a long-term business mindset and investing in human capital are key to effectively implementing the Farm-to-Fork strategy, challenges that young farmers are particularly posed with. The book delves into the sustainability of small farms run by young agriculturalists within the framework of the Farm-to-Fork strategy, focusing on countries like the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Lithuania.
