Every expectation was for Violet Sorrengail to meet her end during her inaugural year at Basgiath War College—an expectation she herself shared. However, Threshing was merely the first daunting hurdle intended to filter out those lacking resolve, worth, or fortune. With the start of the actual training, Violet is already contemplating how she’ll endure. It's not only because the process is exceedingly harsh and intentionally punishing, nor simply because it aims to push the riders’ pain thresholds to their limits. The challenge is compounded by a new vice commandant who is determined to demonstrate Violet's powerlessness—unless she chooses to betray the man she holds dear.
