Roger Robinson is a talented writer and performer dividing his time between London and Trinidad. His debut poetry collection, "The Butterfly Hotel," was a finalist for The OCM Bocas Poetry Prize. With a rich history of touring with the British Council, Roger has played a crucial role as a co-founder of Spoke Lab and the global writing community known as Malika’s Kitchen. Recognized by Decibel as one of the 50 influential writers shaping the black-British literary landscape over the past five decades, he has also ventured into short fiction with "Adventures in 3D" (2001). His poetry pamphlets, such as "Suitcase" (2004) and "Suckle," the latter earning the Peoples Book Prize in 2009, showcase his versatile talent. "The Butterfly Hotel," his major poetic work, was published by Peepal Tree Press in 2012. In addition to writing, Roger serves as the lead vocalist for King Midas Sound, a group whose well-received debut album, "Waiting for You," was released by Hyperdub Records. His solo performances, including "The Shadow Boxer," "Letter from My Father’s Brother," and "Prohibition," have all premiered at the British Festival of Visual Theatre at Battersea Arts Centre.
