The author examines the frequently held belief that Immanuel Kant, by rejecting Judaism as the origin of Christian sacred history and thus dismissing its intrinsic link with Christianity, was merely echoing the prevalent viewpoint of his time. In contrast to this notion, he argues that within the context of Enlightenment theology and philosophy, Kant's perspective on Judaism was actually unusual and possibly even highlighted certain lesser-known currents within the German Enlightenment. This publication is primarily aimed at scholars of Kant's philosophy of religion but will also resonate with researchers in Enlightenment studies, historians of philosophy, Judaic scholars, and theologians, particularly those focused on the concept of supersessionism.
