Born in 1968, Usamaru Furuya completed his education at Tama Art University in Tokyo, where he majored in oil painting. His artistic interests extended to sculpture, theater, and butō dance, and he even ventured into directing. He made his debut in the comic scene in 1994 with the graphic novel Palepoli, published in the magazine Garo. Furuya's later works appeared in numerous comic magazines, such as Young Sunday, showcasing a wide range of graphic and thematic diversity. His novels feature both elaborate, surreal compositions and straightforward, comedic styles. Additionally, Furuya is known for creating comics using various materials, which were featured in the cultural magazine Studio Voice. His work is characterized by a seamless blend of drawing styles, playful manipulation of form, and deep references to pop culture. Usamaru often teeters on the edge of grotesque, frequently addressing controversial subjects in his works. The comic Muzyka Marie is a philosophical tale with a classic narrative, set in an intricately crafted, artistic world.
