Piotr Stanisław Załuski - sylwetka autora
The author, well-versed in both prose and reportage, has also penned works for young audiences and television shows. He spent his childhood at the Szulmierz estate in the Ciechanów district. After World War II, he and his family were displaced, eventually settling in Gdańsk in 1948, where he earned a degree in hydraulic engineering from the local Polytechnic in 1953. His writing career took off in 1956, with initial stories reflecting his professional experiences in construction.
His debut, the short story "Łapówka," was broadcast by Polish Radio in 1957. Three years later, in 1960, he released his first collection of novellas, "Ślad na asfalcie," published by Wydawnictwo Morskie. Over the years, he worked extensively with the Polish Radio Theatre for Young People, crafting radio plays that were later adapted into written stories published by various houses, including Morskie, Horyzonty, KAW, and the Bookselling Association.
As a journalist, he contributed as a reporter to the editorial team of the weekly "Głos Stoczniowca," leading the "From the Life of Solidarity" section from 1980 to 1981. Following his dismissal from the editorial board post-1981, he turned to literature for his livelihood for the following decade. Between 1988 and 1992, he, under the pseudonym Leon Korn and in partnership with Mirosław Stecewicz, published 12 volumes of children's stories.
Additionally, Stanisław Załuski is the founder and honorary president of the Polish Landowners' Association. Since February 2012, he has served as the President of the Gdańsk Branch of the Polish Writers' Association. In recognition of his contributions, President Bronisław Komorowski awarded him the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta in 2010.
