The Overstory

An artist comes into possession of a century-old collection of photographic portraits, all focused on a single, fated American chestnut tree. Meanwhile, a college student in the late 1980s, known for her wild lifestyle, experiences an accidental electrocution, leading to her death and subsequent return to life, thanks to ethereal beings made of air and light. A scientist with impairments in hearing and speech makes a groundbreaking discovery that trees are engaging in communication with one another. During the Vietnam War, an Air Force crew member survives being shot down by landing in the protective embrace of a banyan tree. These stories, along with those of five other individuals, unfold as each person is uniquely called upon by the natural world. Together, they unite in a final effort to prevent a looming ecological disaster.
