On a day that begins like any other, your morning routine is suddenly disrupted by the discovery of an unusual wooden box outside your home. Inside, it contains a revelation about your lifespan. This phenomenon is not isolated; every individual across the globe, from sprawling suburban estates to nomadic encampments in arid deserts, finds an identical box. The sudden appearance of these boxes throws the world into chaos. The pressing questions on everyone's mind are about their origin, significance, and the validity of the lifespans they purportedly reveal. As society teeters between division and unity, grapples with biases, and searches for answers, each person is confronted with a deeply personal dilemma: Do they wish to know their allotted time? And how will this revelation shape their lives? "The Yardstick" explores the emergence of a transformed world through the interwoven narratives of eight characters: close friends bonded by shared aspirations; pen pals who offer mutual solace; a couple living without urgency; a doctor unable to heal himself; and a political leader whose box acts as a catalyst, upending his life and the world around him.
