Grieving the death of his wife, Rita, former NYPD homicide detective Nico Doyle relocates to her native village of Gravigna, nestled in the Chianti wine region. Though Nico, with his mixed Italian and Irish heritage, manages to navigate the region with the assistance of Rita's family, he still senses a profound isolation and displacement. Searching for tranquility, he instead discovers chaos when an early morning gunshot and a dog's yelping draw him to a nearby forest. There, he stumbles upon a corpse clad in striking gold sneakers. When the authorities arrive, Nico, almost impulsively, claims the fluffy white dog as his pet, attempting to distance himself from the murder. However, Salvatore Perillo, the maresciallo of the town, learns of Nico's detective past and recruits him to aid in the investigation. This quaint Italian setting, it seems, is fraught with secrets, as many locals, including Nico's own in-laws, are linked to the victim. Tasked with uncovering the layers of deception in Gravigna, Nico embarks on a mission to unearth hidden truths.
