Thomas Paine - sylwetka autora
The Enlightenment era was marked by the influential English writer and thinker who was actively involved in the American Revolution and is recognized as one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. He was a pioneer of liberalism. In 1774, he arrived in Philadelphia and, by 1776, published the pamphlet "Common Sense," which urged the formation of an independent nation instead of remaining under British colonial rule in America. He participated in the American War of Independence and returned to Great Britain in 1787. Back in his homeland, he continued to advocate for radical liberty ideas, supporting the French Revolution and the right of nations to establish democratic governments. After publishing "The Rights of Man," he faced the threat of arrest and fled to revolutionary France. There, he was elected to the National Convention, but was also imprisoned by the Jacobins. In "The Age of Reason," he acknowledged that deism was the foundation of his beliefs.
