Thomas Berger - sylwetka autora
He was a soldier with service in various parts of Europe. He pursued higher education at the University of Cincinnati and Columbia University, and gained professional experience as a librarian and journalist. His time stationed in occupied Germany provided the setting for his debut novel, "Crazy in Berlin" (1958), featuring Carl Reinhart, a character who reappears in subsequent novels such as "Reinhart in Love," "Vital Parts," and "Reinhart's Women." However, Berger's most acclaimed work is "Little Big Man" (1964), which tells the story of a white boy raised amongst the Cheyenne, highlighting the contrasts between the lifestyles of white Americans and Native Americans. The narrative, led by protagonist Jack Crabb, includes encounters with numerous historical figures like Gen. Custer, Wyatt Earp, and Wild Bill Hickok. This novel was adapted into a movie in 1970, directed by Arthur Penn, with Dustin Hoffman playing the lead role.
