For the first 25 years of my professional journey, I held executive positions in startups, overseeing marketing, product management, and sales teams. I played a key role in seven successful B2B technology startups, many of which were eventually acquired, such as DataMirror by IBM and Janna Systems by Siebel Systems, which was later taken over by SAP. I also managed sizable teams at major companies like IBM, Siebel, and Sybase. Collectively, these acquisitions surpassed a value of two billion dollars. Throughout my career, I've been responsible for the strategic positioning, repositioning, and launch of 16 products, driven by a keen interest in discerning what sets successful products apart from those that fail. My commitment to developing a systematic approach to positioning technology products and companies has become central to my career. As a consultant, I've had the opportunity to collaborate with over 100 different companies, deepening my expertise in this field. Primarily, I focus on early and growth-stage startups where effective positioning is crucial for success. I also assist large international firms in enhancing their product and marketing teams' positioning skills.

My book, "Obviously Awesome," encapsulates my insights on positioning and offers a methodology accessible to any startup. This work has become a bestseller and has gained popularity among entrepreneurs and professionals in product and marketing roles. Reflecting on my academic background in Engineering, it seems unlikely I would become an author, but life took an unexpected turn. It appears my sixth-grade English teacher underestimated the role of grammar in my career. Now, at this stage, I focus on giving back by mentoring and advising numerous startups and their staff. Additionally, I serve enthusiastically on the boards of several startups. Residing in Toronto, Canada, I enjoy life with my children, a small dog, and a cabin in the woods.
