At the University of Warsaw, the Research Centre for Buddhist Studies, founded by Marek Mejor, serves as a hub for Tibetan Buddhism research, with Stanisław Jan Kania actively contributing. This establishes a dedicated group of scholars delving into various Tibetology areas. Currently, Tibetan Studies are offered through two academic programs: Mongolian and Tibetan Studies, and Religions of Asia and Africa: Buddhism, Islam, and Others. The work titled "Tibet and the Himalayas: Past and Present I" is a collaborative effort of the Tibetological team, edited by Magdalena Szpindler, Paulina Koniuch, and Stanisław Jan Kania. This volume originated from an international conference held on October 21-22, 2024, at the University of Warsaw's Faculty of Asian and African Cultures. The included research ranges from broad overviews to specific studies, aiming to ignite interest and deepen understanding of Tibetan and Himalayan cultures. This publication marks the first in a planned series of studies and publications by the University of Warsaw's Tibetologists.
