A British historian, educated at King’s College School and Wimbledon College, pursued his studies in archaeology and history at Collingwood College, Durham. He earned his degree in Egyptology and modern history from the University of London. His scholarly interests extend beyond the history of the Roman Empire to include ancient and modern coins, as well as the writings of Samuel Pepys and John Evelyn. He is an active member of the Royal Numismatic Society, the Society of Antiquaries of London, and a historical association. In 1998, he embarked on a career as an independent writer. However, from 2007 to 2016, he paused his writing to take up teaching at Kesteven and Sleaford High School in Sleaford.
