Anatole France - sylwetka autora
A French poet, novelist, and critic, he was a dedicated bibliophile and historian known for his rational and skeptical approach. He was often compared by his contemporaries to Voltaire and Jean Baptiste Racine. As a poet, he was affiliated with the Parnassian movement. He wrote numerous satirical and mock-heroic novels inspired by 17th-century philosophical and libertine tales. In his literary and essay work, he vocally criticized the religious, societal, and moral norms of late 19th and early 20th century France. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1921, recognized by the Nobel committee for his brilliant literary achievements distinguished by their exquisite style, profound humanism, and truly Gallic temperament. Erik Axel Karlfeldt, a member of the jury, hailed him as the last great classicist of his time, or perhaps even the last European. Joseph Conrad called him the "prince of prose," describing his work as "the most just and worthy." France's humanism also influenced writers such as Marcel Proust, Thomas Mann, Aldous Huxley, Jean-Paul Sartre, and André Gide.
